Train to Penzance today and ready for the off. Beautiful coastal journey skirting the shorelines of south Cornwall, passing St Michael's Seat off the coast from Marazion (photo).
First mistake of the trip. Kathy kindly offered to take me, heavy bag and bike to Bath Spa station to catch the once-a-day direct train to Penzance, the Merchant Adventurer (great name for a train).
Being rushed, I declined joining the school run thinking there would be time enough; leave home 8:30 for short drive down to station. Foolish! Kathy was snarled up in Monday morning traffic, so I wobbled out, bulky bag carried rucksack-style, free-wheeling down the steep, wet descending back route to the station. However, the travel nymphs took pity and delivered me unscathed. Long live the spirit of the Merchant Adventurer!
